Apple’s latest iPad Pro lineup is using mini-LED display tech to closely compete with OLED displays. A new report from TheElec suggests that the first OLED iPad will be coming in 2022, followed by two new Apple OLED iPads in 2023.
It makes sense seeing that the company has already implemented the Super Retina XDR display, its fancy name for OLED in the iPhone 12 lineup. Also, Apple reportedly faced a lot of difficulties procuring mini–LEDs for the new M1 iPad Pro.

Going into further details, the report says that Apple will release its first 10.9-inch iPad in 2022. Then in 2023, the company will release the 11-inch and 12.9-inch models. If this rumor is true, the iPad displays will be at par with each other in the coming time.
Currently, you get the standard IPS display on the 11-inch iPad Pro. The 12.9-inch iPad Pro comes with a mini-LED panel. Simply put, the 11-inch iPad Pro has the same display as the current-gen iPad Air, which puts the 11-inch iPad Pro at a disadvantage.
Elec’s report also says that Samsung Display will be the sole supplier of Apple OLED panels for the 2022 iPad. The 2022 iPad and the 2023 iPad are expected to have different types of OLED panels.
The 2022 iPad is told to come with thin-film encapsulation (TFE) technology, but with a rigid OLED panel. In the 2023 iPad models, we may see a more flexible Apple OLED display, contributing to a thinner bezel.
