It’s no secret that gaming laptops have always been a bit bulky, a consequence of the specifications and performance they offer. However, in recent years, companies have started to make laptops that combine top-tier performance with ergonomic design and lightweight builds, for example, the Asus ROG G14 lineup. Now, HP has also dipped its toes into the thin and light segment with its new HP Omen Transcend 14 gaming laptop.
HP Omen Transcend 14: Design and Specifications
In contrast to typical gaming laptops, the Transcend 14 takes a subtler approach by adopting a clean, unassuming design, along with a new white color option.
However, perhaps the biggest point about HP’s event was the weight of the Omen Transcend 14, which stands at only 1.4kgs, making it the lightest 14-inch gaming laptop. Regarding specifications, it houses the 14th-gen Intel Core Ultra 7 or Ultra 9 processors, up to 32GB of DDR5 RAM, 2TB of storage, and an RTX 4070 GPU.
While the real-world performance is still unclear, a demo by Engadget showcased the device’s capabilities. It maintained over 60FPS in Cyberpunk 2077 at a 2K resolution while simultaneously streaming using OBS at 1080p.
Coming to the display, the Transcend 14 boasts a 2.8K OLED panel featuring a variable 120Hz refresh rate, HDR support, a peak brightness of 500 nits, and a wide color gamut covering 100% of the DCI-P3 spectrum.
Battery and charging
While HP claims 11.5 hours on a single charge with its 71WHr battery, real-world usage often yields lower results for high-performance laptops. Fortunately, it uses a 140W USB-C port for charging, eliminating the need for additional chargers.
Pricing and availability
Expected to launch in Q1 2024, the HP Omen Transcend 14 will be priced starting from $1,600, positioning it as a direct competitor to the Zephyrus G14.
